Finally, we are in the era of AI. If you are reading this then you have surely heard about ChatGPT, an AI designed by OpenAI which is a non-profit organisation. ChatGPT has created a lot of hype in a short time span. The remarkable tool has captured the attention of individuals from a diverse number of industries. From writing to healthcare, there hasn’t been a single industry which isn’t influenced by ChatGPT in one way or another. The CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman on Twitter (Now X) made the claim that ChatGPT gained a million users within the initial five days of its launch. No sooner, within a month the remarkable AI-based chatbot of OpenAI reached a whooping number of 100 million users.

On the other side of the coin is Google which is also renowned as an organisation quite associated with innovation and digitalisation, quickly recognised the potential of AI as ChatGPT gained and developed its own AI named Bard on 21st March 2023, about 4 months after the launch of ChatGPT. Both ChatGPT and Bard being the current leading AI systems have some ample differences between them which need to be understood to harness their benefits respectively. The following article focuses on establishing a straightforward discussion of the key differences between the said AIs.

ChatGPT vs Bard

1. Accessibility.

ChatGPT is available in around 164 nations and territories while Bard is available in more than 230 countries. So if you belong to nations like North Korea, China or Syria, you won’t be able to harness the prowess of ChatGPT. Bard gets and upper hand in this section.

2. Language

In this area, Bard again has an advantage over ChatGPT. Bard is available in 40 languages whereas, ChatGPT is only available in 9 different languages such as Dutch, Russian, Arabic, Chinese and others. Lack of availability in diverse languages is a key drawback of ChatGPT over which OpenAI needs to work.

3. Efficiency

ChatGPT was trained on a huge text-based dataset through which the chatbot crawls websites, examines different sources such as books and documents and finally through internet scrapping content is presented to the user. Recently, the launch of the GPT-4 model has unlocked more features of the AI tool such as understanding the intent of the user, more truthful information and generation of outputs that are less offensive and dangerous. In addition to these, Bard was trained on different forms of conversation which is a reason behind the natural dialogues between the users and Bard.

4. Pricing

Pricing is quite subjective to every user or customer. ChatGPT in the current times offers both free as well as paid service. GPT-3.5 is free for use while a much more advanced and improved version of the software, GPT-4 is a paid service. One can gain access to GPT-4 for around 20 dollars/month. Bard is a totally free chatbot service.
